(tutorial) Layer Cake Skirt

This year, I really am trying to focus on wardrobe needs.
Emily fluctuates between wanting to dress "fancy" for school (she has a fancy friend there...)
and wanting to just wear jeans/leggings and t-shirts.
So this week, I made her some practical charcoal gray leggings using the Izzy & Ivy pattern
(they turned out awesome!)
and came up with this (fancy-ish) skirt!
It is a double layered confection...I used a solid and a striped jersey from my stash.
Emily helped pick out the color combination.
The design is loosely based on my Ice Cream Social Skirt, but this version is only a half-circle skirt.
Two layers of scallop trim at the hem were the icing on the cake, and finished it off perfectly!

**Linked up here**
Materials:

Knit Fabric: 3/4 - 1 yard of each color
trim (optional)

To create your pattern for a half-circle skirt, go to this fabulous blog post! It is a great explanation about circle skirts and includes an excel calculator that makes creating the pattern SO INCREDIBLY EASY!

Once you have your pattern, you are ready to cut out your fabric.

  7. Oh My Goodness! I made one. I love it. The fit is perfection. It only took me 1 hour to go from making the pattern to completing the skirt. I'm off to make more... :-)

  8. Too bad I am lousy at math. I could never make one for myself, but this is absolutely adorable! I wish I could find nice knits like the striped you have here.. my Jo-Ann Fabrics has very limited printed knit fabric. It is mostly solids and a heavy. If you ever make one for an adult, I would love to see it.
